THE PIANO STUDIO OF LISA BELK
NEW FESTIVAL POLICY, 2010-2011
In the past I have encouraged students to participate in as many of the festival opportunities as they have desired. However, doing so can lead to a shortage of lesson time for the student to learn, stalling their progress. So much time goes into learning the “right” pieces that unfortunately the student’s needs take a back seat to the special pieces.
Therefore effective with the 2010 – 2011 school year, I am creating a “festival policy” within my studio. Students will receive an “INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE” in each of the festivals anywhere from two to four months prior to the festival. These “invitations” will be based on length of study, lesson length, practice habits, and rate of progress. I will prefer that students have had at least 2 full years of piano study before considering a festival. Most students who only receive a 30 minute lesson do not have spare time in their lesson to plan for a festival. Students who do not show consistent practice habits will not be rewarded with the opportunity to work on only a few special pieces for a festival. Lastly, even some students who are working very diligently may not need to stop their flow of progress to accommodate festival requirements.
NOTE: The Fall Piano Party and Spring Recitals need no invitation to participate.
